Here in Fintry, we’d like to invite you to take part in our citizen science ‘Nature Needs You’ nature survey! Your survey will help us monitor the biodiversity of Fintry and guide us to where improvements may be needed.

It’s very simple, all you need to do is:

– Request a survey form from us or pick one up in the Sports Club.

– Pick your favourite outdoor spot in Fintry – it could be the view from your living room window, your garden, the community garden, the banks of the Endrick, the castle drive.

– Wherever it is, we ask you to spend up to an hour in that spot looking for and recording any nature you see. This can be the plants, trees and flowers; birds, butterflies and bees; ants, spiders and woodlice; squirrels, hedgehogs or frogs! Anything from the natural world, jot it down on your FDT survey sheet.

– Once completed, please send back your form to us in our letterbox in the Sports Club, or you can scan and email the form to admin@fintrydt.org.uk.

Everyone who returns a form by Monday 31st August will be automatically entered into our prize draw! We have some great prizes to be won:

– Adult entries: Benview Garden Centre voucher

– Ages 11 – 18: Eco Friendly Ear Buds

– Age under-11: The FDT Explorer Kit

We hope you will join us in appreciating and celebrating Fintry’s rich biodiversity.  

The Festival arrives at a time when the news about our climate and planet seems bleak. Our intention over August is to bring you the GOOD news about our climate and demonstrate ways we can all make a difference, right here on our doorstep. 

As Jane Goodall wrote: 

“I like to envision the whole world as a jigsaw puzzle… If you look at the whole picture, it is overwhelming and terrifying, but if you work on your little part of the jigsaw and know that people all over the world are working on their little bits, that’s what will give you hope.” 

Throughout the month we will post other pieces of the jigsaw puzzle, where positive action and environmental improvements are making a difference.

Dr Bike will also accept donations of bikes or bike parts. These go back to Recyke-a-Bike, and with a bit of mechanical magic, are refurbished (where possible) and sold to raise funds for the organisation.

To enable the residents of Fintry to continue to reduce energy use and carbon emissions, we are delighted to be able to offer a new round of ENERGY EFFICIENCY GRANTS and RENEWABLES ASSISTANCE GRANTS.

Further details on the criteria and application forms are available on the grants page of our website. Both grants have limited, ringfenced funds. All grants will be made on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.

Please note that FDT’s EMERGENCY DISCRETIONARY RENEWABLES FUND is also still available over the coming year. This fund is intended to support those who have reached a crisis point with their renewable energy system, whose circumstances require urgentassistance in order to provide a functioning renewable energy system. Full details can be found on our grants page of the website.

Please note that Fintry Development Trust are currently undertaking a financial planning and governance review to manage the future reduction to their income. This will result in changes to what we can offer as grants. More information will be available when the review is complete.

The FDT recycling bins are located at the back of the car park of the Sports Club. We have three bins for different types of waste:

• Medicine Blister Packs

• Pens and Markers

• Holiday Decorations and Party Supplies

Please note that the Gardening Items bin has now closed – it was very full and so the contents have been collected for recycling. Over the winter months we will instead offer a recycling bin for holiday decorations and party supplies.

Please check the guides to learn what you can and can’t recycle and only use the terracycle bins for the allowed items. Throwing in items that we can’t accept, including plastic bags full of approved items, will lead to us having to close the project. Thank you.

The grant was originally set up in response to the fuel and cost of living crisis, and is a departure from the main aims of the Trust. As the government will once again provide support to certain households, FDT will re-focus efforts on sustainability, energy efficiency and green energy. We are working closely with Energy Action Scotland to ensure that the households in Fintry who have received the Fuel Payment Grant, gain access to all the relevant help and support offered in Scotland to tackle fuel poverty. We will continue in our efforts to assist Fintry homeowners to make their homes as energy efficient as possible to further reduce fuel bills.

For this, last round, of the Fuel Payment Grant, ALL previous applicants must RE-APPLY.

ALL application forms must be printed and posted into the FDT mailbox in the foyer of the Sports Club.
